Structure

The Design Innovation Centre at IIT Bhubaneswar consists of five chambers (Figure on the right) where students inculcate the culture of innovation. Each chamber consists of three arenas.

 
 

We are a squad with 5 chambers, each having 3 arenas:

1. Chamber of 3D’s (Dream, Draw and Design arenas) – The place where an idea takes birth as a virtual product. It consists majorly of the brainstorming work done by budding engineers, faculty members and collaborators.

  1. Dream:
    1. Brainstorming.
    2. Collaboration.
  2. Draw:
    1. Animation (Web graphics, Characters, Logos, Games, Multimedia).
    2. Print.
  3. Design: (using ANSYS, NASTRAN, CASTIA, SOLIDWORKS, ASCEND, SmartErgo, etc.)
    1. Numerical Simulation
    2. Optimization
    3. Ergonomics

2. Chamber of Deconstruction (Cut, Measure and Scan arenas) – Spot where products are dissected, quite literally. Reverse engineering is done to improve the present state and find avenues for up-gradation.

  1. Cut: (Anatomy done with minimal data loss):
    1. Mechanical.
    2. Electrical.
    3. iv. Chemical.
  2. Measure: (Enhances measurement accuracy and helps to develop appropriate solution):
    1. Metrology.
    2. Precision.
  3. Scan: (Helps in viewing, measuring and calibrating various component details)
    1. 3D Scanning
    2. X-Ray Tomograp
    3. Photography

3. Chamber of Making (Plastic, Metal and Wood & Clay arenas) – Ideas are expressed in real life moulds.

  3. Wood & Clay:
    1. Pottery
    2. Sculpting

4. Chamber of Life (Sense, Actuate and Control arenas) – Enlivening the moulds coming out of Chamber of making. Products start responding to their surroundings.

  1. Sense: (Vision, Ultrasonic, laser, thermal, sound, tactile, etc):

  2. Actuate: (Motors, pumps, hydraulic jacks, relay, thermal bimorph, etc):

5. Chamber of Trumpets (Ad, Package and Market arenas) – Products gets all ready to show off and sell themselves.
